In Québec, all the public schools have an "orthopédagogue" to help the students who have special needs such as the learning disabilities. There is no equivalent in English for orthopédagogie, so I say that I am a "reading and writing specialist".
L' orthopedagogie is not a self-created program.
It requires a minimum of full time four years' university courses. The university teachers I've had have done or are still doing research in education. The training is recognized by Canada's Ministries of Education.
L' orthopédagogie is based on the latest research in special education, it's a structured literacy program with a multisensory approach.

When I arrived in Vancouver in 2020, I noticed that there was a lack of services for students and bilingual students with persistent difficulties in French.
So I decided to open my own private practice.
I help students who are in full-time French programs, in immersion or in Core French.

Bonjour !I am Lucile. I am a Reading and Writing Specialist in French since 2010.In 2003, I decided to leave France and move to Quebec. It was here that I discovered the profession of reading and writing specialist (orthopédagogue).
In 2020, I moved again to Vancouver. I was touched by the difference in resources for French language learners between the two provinces. I wanted to bring my expertise to the service of struggling students. By day, I work in a bilingual school, helping students with difficulties from grade 1 to grade 8. I feel particularly touched when I hear that a child's confidence is low due to repeated failures in class, despite their best efforts! |
